Two Egg’s wildly popular Robert E. Long Cane Syrup Day draws thousands of visitors to our special little community. It celebrates the heritage of cane syrup making in the Long family of Two Egg and is one of Jackson County’s top annual events. It takes place on the first weekend in December. Each year, crowds make the trip to Two Egg to watch the syrup-making project. It involves the use of a 12-ft. long, 8-ft. wide stainless steel pan in the cooking process and a 1947 mill outfitted with a conveyor belt powered by the same PO 20 Ferguson tractor his dad used back in his day. There’s a free sausage biscuit and syrup breakfast that morning, and visitors can also buy sausage in bulk to take home. The Long family will also have rib slabs and Boston Butt roasts for sale, along with some chicken and bottles of Robert Long syrup.
